About

Meals_on_Wheels_deliveryThe Ennis Senior Center opened October 6, 2015. We provided the 10,000th meal in February.  Meals are served from 11:45 – 12:30 Monday thru Friday to anyone regardless of age.   The Meals on Wheels program is serviced through the Senior Center for anyone 60 years or older.  The requested donation is  $5.00 for those who are able to pay.  Delivery of Meals is also coordinated through the Senior Center.  We request that reservations are made at least 24 hours in advance for both in-house dining, and delivery of meals.  Visit our menu to see what is being served for the month; and you may make your reservation on-line by clicking on the Meal Reservation button at the bottom of the page or by selecting from the Services drop down menu located at the upper right.

Our goal is to provide a comfortable place for seniors to congregate to have a meal, participate in card games, board games, watch TV, or simply sit and chat or read.  Additional activities will be offered such as lunch and a movie or bowling, collaboration with the pre-school and school such as “adopt a grandparent”, reading out-loud, or support for the Colts after school program.  Programs will be scheduled and are  which listed on the Activities (upper right) calendar.

The center is operated by Ennis Senior Center, Inc a not-for-profit organization that was formed  March 2015.  Since forming, we have procured the building and have completed the first phase of the building renovation which was a remodel of the interior by removing non-supporting walls, improving lighting, securing kitchen equipment, upgrading furnishings, making minor improvements to the restrooms to meet current ADA (Americans Disability Act) standards, as well as some exterior improvements. We are now embarking on a capital fund raising that will allow us to improve access to the building with a weathered entry and reception are and improved handicap parking.  The other service improvements are to provide private office/conference space that may be used for health checks (e.g. hearing aid adjustments, foot care, blood pressure checks), and financial/insurance counseling, tax preparations assistance.  Expansion of dry storage for kitchen, and secure storage area for ourselves and organizations that utilize the facility for meetings or events.

The success of the Senior Center is dependent upon volunteers.  We have one part-time paid Service Manager who is supported by volunteers, including a local chef restaurant owner advisor and the Board of Directors.  We welcome any and all volunteer assistance whether it be in working in the kitchen, serving meals, greeting and answering the phone, coordinating activities, simply being available to assist in any capacity.  Please complete our Volunteer Information sheet (found under About Us above) and contact us.

The facility is available for use by outside organizations or individuals for a fee.  Click here to download our Facility Use Agreement.

We also need on-going financial support.  All funds raised are solely to provide quality services to seniors in our community. There are no additional taxes planned by the Town of Ennis or Madison County for the Senior Center.

Our Community has come together in support of building  a state-of-the-art Medical Center; an expansion of the Library; the creation of a History Museum, and a new Fire Station, we are confident that you will want to part of the support for our Seniors.   Any help you can give would be tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
